Sierra Club Meeting, Norman Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy by 2050

OU professor, Jennifer Saltzstein is helping the mass the Sierra Club’s “Ready for 100” campaign focused on moving Norman toward 100% renewable energy by 2050.
They will meet Tuesday, October 10th at 6:30 p.m. at the Norman Public Library (on Gray Street), and are eager for feedback from local members of AWIS.
At this meeting there will be 6 focus groups that will discuss the opportunities and challenges of moving toward 100% renewable energy with regard to particular topics;
Transportation (This table will address the role of bikes, EVs, and commuter rail in meeting our clean energy goal.)
State law/lobbying (This table will discuss current state law, upcoming bills, and interim studies, addressing the opportunities and challenges they pose to our goals; the discussion will include basic how-tos and tips on how to lobby in OK.)
Equity/diversity (This table will discuss ways to ensure that renewable energy is affordable and that the under-served are brought to the table.)
Public engagement (This table will begin planning our public launch for the New Year, by discussing how best to do public engagement through listening sessions, town halls, etc.)
Public health/women’s and children’s health (This table will discuss the harms fossil fuels pose to our health, particularly reproductive health and children’s health.)
Small Business (This table will discuss potential economic impacts of renewable energy on small businesses.)
Careers/Union (This table will discuss career opportunities are available in the clean energy industry and how to train residents so that they are prepared to seize them.)
